Three ways to get a DPF working again, what they cost and when each one fits
THREE METHODS
The choice depends on the condition of the filter. Diagnostics and a particle test show it – without them any method is a guess.
On-car flush – from €80
The filter stays on the car. Right when it is clogged with soot but intact. The fastest and cheapest option.
Off-car wash – from €120
The filter is removed and washed under pressure. It clears not only soot but also ash, which regeneration cannot burn.
Restoration – from €550
When the filter element is cracked, melted or broken: washing or a new filter element, related systems checked. 3-year warranty on the work and on passing inspection.
HOW TO TELL WHAT YOU NEED
The symptoms look alike, the causes differ.
The filter is clogged
DPF light on, frequent regenerations, higher consumption, limp mode. Cleaning usually helps.
The filter is damaged
Black smoke, the car fails the particle test, sometimes with no fault codes at all. Cleaning will not help – restoration is needed.
The cause is elsewhere
Injectors, EGR, the pressure sensor, short trips. If the cause stays, the filter clogs again – so we check related systems.

How much does DPF restoration cost?
From €550 incl. VAT, with a 3-year warranty on the work and on passing inspection. A new filter usually costs €1,500–4,000.
Can a DPF be cleaned without removal?
Yes, if the filter is intact and clogged with soot. When ash has built up, an off-car wash is more effective.
How long does cleaning last?
It depends on the cause and on how the car is driven. Once the cause is fixed – faulty injectors, EGR, sensors – the filter lasts a long time.
